Of the two different reverses for the year, Rev. of 1838 and Rev. of 1839, the reverse of 1839 is the "correct" variety. This piece is the anomaly for the date and utilized the reverse of the Reeded Edge Capped Bust coins. Although it does not bear a mintmark, it was struck in the New Orleans Mint. A cost-saving measure by the mint, they re-used a previous year's die that did not bear the O mintmark. Pleasing luster glows from the mostly-white surfaces. Strongly detailed and boasting green, orange, and teal rim toning on both sides. Very appealing and minimally worn, this would make a great example for the advanced type collector! - Liberty Seated Half Dollar
