A surprisingly scarce date in mint state, the mintage of just 4,440 pieces makes the 1889 eagle an anomaly in the late series and an underrated issue across all grades. Sharply struck surfaces glow with appreciable prooflike luster unimpeded by light, grade defining abrasions.
