The year 1856 represents an expansion in proof coinage and although mintage figures were not officially recorded, the surviving population of 25-40 extant today suggests increased collector interest at the time and an estimated mintage of about 50. Tied for finest known, this deeply toned example saw fantastic preservation. Bright mirrors beam through the toning on both sides creating an appealing, well-contrasted piece.
