With nearly all 1861-S $20s on the market coming from shipwrecks, finding a piece that has not been underwater for decades is surprisingly difficult. Due to the crusty grey-gold surfaces which testify to its originality, we can be sure that this present piece was not part of any shipwreck. Strong luster swirls around well-struck surfaces in an appealing display. A light to medium grey patina is present, however, not distracting or unappealing. From roughly 20-30 examples in uncirculated condition, this is a desirable piece that will fit into any registry set nicely. - Liberty Head $20
