1854-O $3 PCGS MS61 ex: D.L. Hansen/Simpson
The 1854-O three dollar gold piece is one of the most sought-after issues in the series, being the only three dollar gold coin struck at the New Orleans Mint. From a mintage of 24,000 coins, most of which went into circulation, Mint State pieces are notably rare in any grade. This satiny survivor displays vivid orange-gold coloration to both sides. The wreath bowknot is weak as usual (likely due to due to die polishing or lapping), but the strike is otherwise well executed and much of the design is sharply defined. The luster flashes with a mild prooflike effect creating a truly mesmerizing example to view in hand. The Set Registry collector will not want to miss this opportunity! PCGS has graded only two examples finer. - Three Dollar
