A mint engraver punched 30 over the previous year's die and ran with it. This resulted in the only overdate for the small diameter Capped Bust Dimes and one of just four overdates for the entire Capped Bust series. This obverse was paired with two reverses resulting in the JR-4 and JR-5 varieties, of which the JR-5 is quite rare with only 30-75 known. The present example is a select JR-5 piece with grey-green surfaces and golden-rose highlights. Details are strong throughout with soft glowing luster adding to the appeal.
