A Scarce Civil War date gold Eagle from a paltry mintage of just 3,530 pieces. The end of the war was in sight, but the country was depleted and scarred during this time. Somewhat PL fields seem to accentuate the chatter but certainly add interest. Well struck overall with some perfectly original sienna hues remaining in the fields. Perhaps only 20 examples exist in finer condition than this wondrous rarity, with only a handful of those surviving in low uncirculated. Collectors should consider this a fine opportunity to add this date to their registry, as we do not know when another may appear at auction. - Liberty Head $10
