Only one, single example of the 1877 proof Trade Dollar numerically finer exists, a PR67+ cameo, though a dozen or more DCAM pieces are known between PR62 and PR66. A Better early date proof issue from a mintage of just 510 pieces. These early-date proofs are much rarer than the late-date, proof-only years. The present piece is toned a beautiful sienna-orange color with lavender hues at the rims. Intense, flashy luster entrances the viewer as it pools over the near-perfect fields. It makes strong claims for the DCAM designation, with just slight weakness in contrast on the olive branch and left side stars. A beautiful original that has rightly earned CAC approval.
