The finest we have had the pleasure of offering and this first in many years, the 1872 ten is a key issue with a mintage of only 1,620 pieces. Despite the paltry mintage, there are a handful of Mint State pieces known for the date, unlike many similarly elusive eagles this era. Of the estimated 40-60 survivors PCGS reports just eight finer than the present offering. The fields display a shimmering, distinctly prooflike effect on both sides, undoubtedly because of the small mintage. The brightness is only slightly hindered by grade defining chatter to the fields.
